Day 2

  • Sophie is 6 years’ old. She enjoys going to school in Bristol. She describes herself as “not very sporty”. It is Monday and she doesn’t have PE today
  • Sophie gets up & gets dressed ready for school. She has her breakfast and watches television as her mum makes her packed lunch. Sophie’s school have been promoting “park & stride” so her mum drives her half way, parks, then walks 10 minutes into school. Sophie’s mum says it wakes her up too!
  • Sophie has an assembly first thing and then Sophie’s class teacher always does a 5 minute activity either Wake up & Shake Up, Circuits or Traditional Games before formal lessons begin when they do not have PE first lesson. Sophie & her friends enjoy learning the different routines during the Wake Up and Shake Up. She then spends the morning working hard on her numeracy & literacy. During the morning, Sophie’s teacher also takes 10 minutes to do something active with the whole class. If the weather is ok they go outside. Skipping is very popular and they have a chart to see who can do the most skips!
  • At lunchtime, Sophie eats her sandwiches and sits with her friends chatting. She then gets involved in a 15 minute game of “Sea-Weed!” organised by the Year 6 playground leaders. Sophie looks forward to Wednesday as her year uses the equipment in the “Huff & Puff” zone!
  • Afternoon lessons are fun and Sophie always feels full of energy & able to concentrate
  • Sophie’s mum walks Sophie 10 minutes back to the car & they pop to the shops to get something for tea
  • When Sophie arrives home she spends 10 minutes practicing the Irish dance she is learning in her after school club. Before getting ready for bed Sophie does some reading & homework with her dad and watches the television to wind down from a busy day.
