Ideas to support delivery of knowledge and understanding of fitness and health

 

Warm up

Before warm up the teacher explains:

"A warm up helps to prepare our bodies and minds for dance"

 

A warm up should include:

  • Whole body activities to raise the body temperature
  • Movements which enable the children to explore the stimulus and dance idea
  • Controlled movements of the joints, eg drawing numbers or shapes in the air, creating and changing shapes with whole or parts of body
  • One body stretch held still for 6 -10 secs

 

After warm up

The teacher asks the children how their bodies feel.

  • Warm
  • Out of breath

 

Cool down

Before cool down the teacher explains:

"A cool down helps our bodies to recover after activity"

 

A cool down can include:

  • Activities which are calm and which can be performed at a steady pace
  • One body stretch held for 6 -10 sec

 

During the lesson encourage:

  • Good posture when in sitting listening position and standing tall
  • Talk about body parts
